If you head 25 miles north of the Houston Airport on Interstate 45, you’ll be in the area called The Woodlands. It’s a unique and popular tourist and entertainment area that includes activities involving Lake Woodlands and the Woodlands Waterway. The Woodlands Waterway has water slides and a lazy river that can take the edge off during those hot summer Texas days that we all need to endure.
There are frequent outdoor concerts at Waterway Square, with splash pads for the toddlers and nearby dining for the family. The children’s museum is another feature of the area that draws tourists from Houston and local families living in and around The Woodlands.
Just north and south of the lake and waterways is the Woodlands Township, which comprises eight villages: Alden Bridge, Cochran's Crossing, College Park, Creekside Park, Grogan's Mill, Indian Springs, Panther Creek, and Sterling Ridge. Each village has a neighborhood association that actively provides their community with events and activities that promote family and connection. There are annual fall festivals, holiday lightings, pool parties at the community pools, concerts in the park, and Fourth of July celebrations.

This 200-acre freshwater body has much to offer for anyone who loves watersports. You can rent a kayak and enjoy your time on the lake just paddling around. Catch and release fishing is allowed on the lake for both boaters, and there is plenty of shoreline for anglers who do not have boats. Some folks like to rent a paddleboard or even a Swan Boat to explore the lake and the waterways there. Also near the lake are the Texas TreeVentures and George Mitchell Nature Preserve for even more to see and do outdoors.
Getting outside and enjoying the water is an excellent way to spend your weekends and evenings during the summer.
