We install humidifiers for Greater Houston homes.
Here in the Greater Houston area, winter is really the peak season for experiencing high levels of dry air inside your home. With the windows closed and your furnace running, the lack of ventilation and warm air can make for an uncomfortably dry environment.
Dry air can worsen allergies or respiratory problems and damage your home’s wood furnishings, wood floors, and musical instruments. The solution, especially for a large home, is a whole-home humidifier system installed by a qualified HVAC technician.
A whole-house humidifier works with your furnace to distribute moisture throughout your home. Most home humidifiers use evaporative or steam technology to humidify the air. We’re more likely to install an evaporative system because it is less expensive and more efficient. It uses a water-saturated pad or drum (the wick) that furnace air blows across, sending the evaporated moisture into your home’s air through your duct system.
When you give us a call, we’ll come out to your home in the Greater Houston area, assess your home’s current HVAC system, and determine the size of your home, and make a recommendation on a properly sized humidifier. We’ll set up a time for the actual installation. On that day, we will arrive with all of the tools and equipment we need to install your new humidifier; it generally takes just a few hours to get the job done. It might take longer if there are complications in connecting ductwork or the water lines.
Once it’s installed, we’ll test it for proper operation and give you any instructions you’ll need to use and maintain it.
There are a few things you should do during its heaviest use. It’s best to check your humidifier once a week to ensure there aren’t any issues with mineral buildup or other debris. Follow the factory recommendations for replacing filters if your unit uses one. Evaporative humidifiers must have the wick (a flat pad or cylinder that absorbs water to send into your air) cleaned or replaced each week.
Depending on your water quality, a steam home humidifier system will need descaling every month. Here in Houston, our water tends to be hard, so mineral buildup is common. Proper maintenance during the dry months of winter will keep your home comfortable and extend the life of your humidifier.
